SHELF Launch:

I fear for my books

I fear for my books is a collection of texts curated by Saluhan Collective, which launched on Saturday, 4 March 2023 at Arts Gen Studio, 42 Moreland St. Footscray, located inside Footscray Community Arts.

Inspired by a quote from the classic novel Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) by Filipino author José Rizal, I fear for my books imagines texts as a form of collective conscience and expression central to the revolutionary thinking of Rizal in articulating Filipino identity.

I fear for my books draws on Saluhan’s relational ethos of facilitating space for dialogue and discourse within Filipino/x and BIPOC communities. Using a process of co-curation, the library catalogue endeavours to be guided by voices from the community and reflective of the nuanced histories and experiences of Filipino/x art, writing, design, and literature.

Produced by: Catherine Ortega-Sandow, MJ Flamiano, and James Emmanuel McKinnon.
